Gastro™ – Step 1 is a gut supplement for horses showing signs of gastric issues & discomfort. It’s used as the first step in our gastric programme, helping stabilise the gut microbiome & restore intestinal barrier function.
- Supports a balanced microbiome for healthy digestion
- Includes Inulin helping feed beneficial hindgut bacteria
- High in protein, amino acids & vitamins
Nutritional Info
Packed with key ingredients that support gut health including Inulin, Papaya, Aloe Vera and L-Arginine, which utilises Nitric Oxide pathway precursors, helping to deliver nutrients to the entire gastric system, supporting gut mobility.
Ideal for horses showing symptoms of gastric discomfort, changes in behaviour, grass, routine and turnout and horses that travel and compete.
Can be used for part of a short or long-term feeding plan or used as and when required during times of stress or changes.
Inulin
Inulin is used to support a healthy gut by selectively encouraging certain beneficial bacteria like Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium to proliferate in the horse’s hindgut. This, in turn, can improve fibre metabolisation, nutrient absorption, and overall digestive health.
Papaya
Papaya, particularly the papain enzyme found within it, is used to support digestion and gastric health. It can help the process of protein breakdown, nutrient absorption, and stimulate salivation, which can benefit horses with digestive issues.
Aloe Vera
Helps soothe the digestive tract and is beneficial for protecting the sensitive lining of the stomach.
L-Arginine
An amino acid, converted in the body into Nitric Oxide(NO), helping to deliver nutrients to the entire gastric system.
Beta-Alanine
Beta-Alanine works in the body by producing ‘Carnosine’. This supports the horse’s ability to absorb acidification.
3-Step Gastric Programme
Step 1 – Gastro™ is the most concentrated formula in the gastric range, helping preserve & restore intestinal barrier function. Ideal for horses showing symptoms of gastric discomfort, changes in behaviour, grass and turnout changes, travelling and competitions.
Step 2 – Gastro Extend™ can be used as a follow on from Gastro™ – Step 1 or used as maintenance if your horse has a sensitive gut or is prone to stress.
Step 3 – SFM PRO™ & SFM PRO – Extra Calmer™ is a daily gut maintenance for your horses gut health. Includes essential vitamins, minerals and amino acids, ideal for when grazing is limited, grass is lacking and throughout winter when nutrients in the grass are lower or turnout is restricted.

Ive tried them all and this is the only one that really works!
“I’ve had my mare for four years, and every autumn she turns spooky, tense, and unpredictable. I’ve tried just about every gut-health supplement out there, some helped a little, but nothing lasting. A week into Step 1 and she’s already more relaxed, softer in her face, and so much more willing. I’m really impressed with this product

Gastro Step one
Had my horse on this now for a couple of months and she is definitely less reactive. Will keep her on this all the time now 😁

Excellent
My TB started planting and not going forward even when he’s nearly home so after checking his saddle and getting the Chiro out and was still the same I went to see Debbie. She is so knowledgeable and recommended Gastro 1 due to all the grass changes, which can affect the hind gut, and after just 3 days he was back to normal and enjoying life. He will stay on it for at least another month to ensure it doesn’t come back.

My horse has found the training stressful and has lost a lot of weight. Not sure if the gastro has helped .
Her training is going well and her behaviour is good. Don’t know if a calmer would help her stress less in addition to the gastric product.

Great supplement
I have had a very positive experience with Gastro 1. Over the summer whilst we had drought I noticed that my horse had become very reluctant to be brushed and extremely miserable with my other horse in the field so I chose to try Gastro 1. It has taken 3 months on this product but I have a much happier horse so it is now time to move onto Gastro 2.

Noticed changes in behaviour
My gelding had become very grumpy in the last month. Tacking up was a nightmare and I knew he was telling me he was uncomfortable somewhere. He was reluctant to step and push forward on the flat in the arena and very reactive hacking. I spoke to a friend who had used the Gastro products and gave it a go. I now have my (still spicy) lovely horse back who is happier to have his girth done up carefully and seems more settled. I am now ordering Step 2.

Great Supplement
A great gastric supplement which has worked wonders for an ulcer prone pony

So far, so good!
Have only been using this for a couple of weeks but feeling confident in it – will continue to use and then switch over to the next step!

My horse became very wired in his brain so I ordered a calmer from Equine Exceed. I received a phone call and asked some questions about the horse then asked if I’d like to trial the gut balancer as they said from our conversation sound’s the upset could be his tummy. I was asked to trial Gastro – step 1 before putting him on the calmer. It’s a 5 day trial so what did I have to lose. My horse changed within 48 hours, he became so quiet you’d almost have been worried. I’ve since bought a full pack of Gastro – step 1 it’s quite expensive but if my boy is happy so am I and apparently the next step is much more reasonable. I’m really pleased with the outcome and haven’t turned to the calmer. Give the gang a call as I definitely was going the wrong way and wouldn’t have got to the root cause on my own. Really grateful, thank you Equine Exceed 🐴
